Petah Tikva is launching a Hollywood-inspired “walk of fame” to celebrate Israeli artists born or living in the city, Israeli media reported on Tuesday.
The initial list of designated stars seen by the Walla news site consisted of 31 singers, authors, and actors who have influenced Israeli culture.
The names include Esther Raab, who was born in Petah Tikva in the 19th century and is known as the first sabra (native Israeli) female poet; Dudu Fisher, an Israeli singer and cantor who played the role of Jean Valjean in a Broadway production of “Les Misérables”; and Tamar Bornstein-Lazar, who wrote the popular children’s series “Kofiko.”
The stars are set to be revealed in a ceremony in the city on September 30.
Reports said the names were chosen by a team from the Petah Tikva municipality and the city’s Center for Performing Arts.

“We are happy that so many Israeli cultural personalities were born or live in Petah Tikva. The list that we released is preliminary and we are more than happy to continue looking into more and more deserving names from the city,” the municipality told Walla, adding that people were welcome to submit names to the municipality in the lead-up to the ceremony.

“Culture has the power to influence a person’s soul, and we see great importance in the artists’ and creators’ work. With that view, we are empowering cultural events in the city, building new venues and theaters, and will continue to empower the local culture world and recognize the artists’ important work,” said Petah Tikva Mayor Rami Greenberg.
